Prisoner Of Azkaban Illustrated Edition!
Oh my gosh! I finally got my hands on the PoA Illustrated Edition! My lovely husband got it for my birthday yesterday (his little yearly tradition since the first one came out 2 years ago). And I just had to share with you guys. I am OBSESSED with Jim Kay's illustrations in all the books and I feel like they get better with every one. So I thought what better way to share with you than to show you some of my favorite illustrations from the book. I won't post all of them of course, so when you go get your copy (which I HIGHLY recommend you do) there are still so many brilliant illustrations for you to enjoy. Also my camera hardly does the illustrations justice and the paper quality and texture to the pages alone is so amazing. But let's just jump right in!
*This pretty much goes without saying, but there will probably be some spoilers from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in this post.
First up is this beautiful 2-page spread on pages 44-45. After Harry, Hermione and Ron meet up in Diagon Alley, Hermione mentions she has some extra galleons from her parents to get herself a birthday present. She wants a pet since Ron has Scabbers and Harry has Hedwig. So the head to the Magical Menagerie...
Next is another 2-page spread on 86-87. The students are in Hagrid's Care of Magical Creatures class and we get to see the wonderful Hippogriffs! And front and center is Buckbeak.
The next 2 (pg. 118-119 & 132-133) look like they could be straight out of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' but in fact are from the Defence Against the Dark Arts textbook and 'Aquatic Wonders of Yorkshire: A Wizard's Field Guide.'
This one from page 207, is buckbeak laying in Hagrid's cabin before they attend his hearing with the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures.
This next one is my absolute favorite in the book! It's a wonderful illustration of the herbology classroom on page 243. I literally gasped when I saw this page for the first time. *swoon*
And last but not least is the iconic scene where Harry casts his stag patronus over the lake in the Forbidden Forest (pg306-307). This is definitely my second favorite from the book. The watercolor work is so beautifully done, especially on the patronus itself.
